Hannah Hunter
TXST Student
My name is Hannah Hunter and I am from a small town in Texas called Bellville. I was born and raised their but had the opportunity to travel and see many great things. Our town is small and considered a 3A school and sports are a big deal in Bellville, Texas. I was heavily involved for many years with volleyball, tennis and track and loved competing in all of them. We were a small town with a big presence and we support like you would not believe.
It was hard to believe I was a junior in high school and it was time for me to pick my path. I was accepted into several great universities, but my heart was set on Texas State for many reasons. As a child and young adult I attended a great tennis camp call “Newks” – John Newcombe Tennis Ranch. This camp was located in New Braunfels, Texas which is about 20 minutes away from San Marcos. This area felt like home to me and I could not think of being anywhere else. I have been in San Marcos for two years now and I am still convenience I made the right decision.
I got to be really good friends with several people in Bellville that also played a big part in my decision to go to Texas State. We all are unique in our own way and have a special bond like no other friend group you have ever seen. It was really exciting for me to love the place I would spend the next four years, but to be with my best group of friends made it even better. One friend in particular held a very special place in my heart and sealed the deal knowing she and I would be taking on San Marcos together. We were the BEST of friends and could finish each other’s sentences. We would make plans daily on where we were going to travel and map out how we would spend the next 50 years and talk about how we would have to live in the same neighborhoods when we were married and so on. On good Friday, April 10th of this year I lost her. Almost one month ago she passed away and I have not figured out how to navigate my existence here at Texas State or anywhere else yet without her. I am struggling to finish this semester and giving everything I have to get through this next week.
Hug everyone you love daily and let them know what they mean to you.
